JobRunner/FloorManager Performance Best Practices

JobRunner and FloorManager Best Practices

This document is based on Pacific Solutions' JobRunner and FloorManager System and Network Requirements. Full documentation can be found by:
  1. Opening a web browser and visiting https://www.pacific-solutions.com/
  2. Click on the Support Menu > System Requirements

  3. Downloading the JobRunner and Floor Manager System and Network Requirements guidelines.

Virus Scanning and JobRunner/FloorManager operation

On the JobRunner/FloorManager server, please exclude the following directories from anti-virus live scanning. Live scans will degrade performance.

C:\Pacific
C:\Program Files\FileMaker
C:\conf
C:\Windows\Temp

On individual workstations uses to access JobRunner/FloorManager, please exclude the following directories from anti-virus live scanning:
C:\Pacific
C:\Program Files\FileMaker
C:\Windows\Temp

WAN, LANs, and VPNs

JobRunner and FloorManager’s performance is limited over WAN connections.

Your desktop JobRunner/FloorManager application must be launched from a system on the same physical LAN as your JobRunner/FloorManager server resides on.

If working remotely or at a different facility than where your JobRunner/FloorManager server resides, you have two options:
  1. Remote into an office computer that resides on the same physical LAN as your JobRunner/FloorManager server and run the JobRunner/FloorManager application from the office computer.
  2.  Remote into a terminal (RDP) server that resides on the same physical LAN as your JobRunner/FloorManager server and runs the JobRunner/FloorManager application from the terminal server.

Pacific Solutions does not support the use of a VPN (client side, site-to-site, etc.) to connect to an office network, and then run the JobRunner/FloorManager application from the remote computer initiating the connection. Since this will be dependent on multiple WAN connections, the use of a direct VPN connection will result in dramatically decreased response times (increased latency) when using JobRunner/FloorManager.

Windows Updates

Pacific Solutions recommends keeping the following items in mind about Windows Updates:

  1. Querying, downloading, and installing Windows updates should occur after hours.
  2. When installing updates, the ‘FileMaker Server’ service should be stopped to avoid database corruption.

System Reboots

Regular reboots of the server hosting JobRunner or FloorManager can help improve performance as it will clear any temporary files stored in memory.

Updating your JobRunner or FloorManager username

Updating your JobRunner/FloorManager username allows you to quickly identify who is connected to your JobRunner/FloorManager server. While not updating does not affect performance, updating your username will allow for more expedient troubleshooting. To update your JobRunner/FloorManager username:
  1. Launch JobRunner or FloorManager
  2. From the Main Menu, click Edit > Preferences.

  3. Under the General Tab, update 'Username' to match the 'name' you use for JobRunner/FloorManager

What is highlighted in yellow should match.
This is a one-time change but is recommended the first time a new user accesses JobRunner or FloorManager, or in cases when a user switches computers. Not updating does not affect performance, but updating your username will allow for more expedient troubleshooting.
