Error Message of Damaged Files

Overview

This article will discuss how to correct the error message of a damaged file.

"[File Name] is damaged and cannot be reopened. Use the Recover command to recover this file."

Resolution

This issue can occur occasionally if the workstation (or remote desktop) accumulates too many cache/temporary files. The solution is simple: clean out these files and reboot. Since you're using a remote desktop application to access JobRunner/FloorManager, your IT may need to handle this since you may not have access to these Temporary folders or reboot the remote desktop server machine.

To clear out these temp files:
  1. Close down JobRunner/FloorManager/FileMaker; you’ll want to make sure it’s completely closed
  2. Open up Windows Explorer (or “File Explorer”)
  3. In the Navigation bar, navigate to “%temp%”
  4. Inside of the Temp Folder, select all and delete
    1. If any files fail to be deleted, skip them
  5. After doing this, a reboot of the machine is highly recommended.
Please give this a try. Your effort in resolving this issue is greatly appreciated. If you're unable to, feel free to forward this to your IT.
If this does not resolve the issue, please contact Pacific Solutions.
